A message from our CEO, James Timpson

We are emerging from hibernation by re-opening our shops where it is safe and legal to do so. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we closed all of our shops for trading from 22 March. Our family business has been trading without shutting its doors since 1865, this includes two World Wars. So, of course, we are keen to re-open as soon as possible. But we will only do this where it is safe, legal and prudent to do so.

Our locksmiths business has continued offering a service throughout the lockdown and our web shop is up and running too.

Government restrictions allow dry cleaning and hardware shops to open and we aim to re-open nearly all of our shops by mid-June to offer customers the full range of services that we have.

When we re-open we will undertake a risk assessment on each shop in order to ensure that we have strict social distancing measures in place and look forward to serving you again soon. We have taken advice from the Government and our supermarket partners and will install Perspex sneeze-screens and implement strict hygiene routines in our shops. We have also added in extra guidelines for our colleagues that reflect the specific nature of the work we do. We are confident that the measures we have put in place will ensure our customers and colleagues are as safe as possible. These measures will remain in place until government advice is updated and in consultation with our supermarket partners.

Where we re-open a shop you will still be greeted by my amazing colleagues and a warm smile and I would like to repeat my thanks to all of my colleagues because they have been brilliant during this crisis. Many have been using their time to support the NHS and the vulnerable from driving ambulances to making face masks. There are 5,500 colleagues in our family and everyone has stood up to the mark.

Many thanks for coming back to shop with us.

James Timpson OBE
CEO, Timpson Group

Are all of your stores now open?

We aim to have most shops open again by mid-June.  Where it is legal, we are working to safely re-open shops with strict social distancing and hygiene measures in place. Our list of open shops is here and we have also published some frequently asked questions about our re-opened shops.

WHAT IF MY LOCAL SHOP IS STILL CLOSED AND I NEED TO COLLECT AN ITEM THAT IS BEING REPAIRED?

We're really sorry but we will only re-open shops where it is safe and legal for us to do so. Sadly, there may be some items remaining in our shops. We apologise if your items are awaiting collection. I am sure you will appreciate that these are unprecedented times and hope that being apart from your items is not a major inconvenience to you. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to retrieve any items from closed shops at this time but will reunite you with your order when we re-open.

Can I still contact you?

Yes, you can still contact us through our usual channels. Click here for our contact details.

When will I receive my online order?

At the moment, our usual service is operating for orders placed on timpson.com although we are seeing some delays from couriers as they, understandably, prioritise the delivery of items for the NHS and key-workers. You can check the status of your order by contacting Customer Service at any time and we will aim to get back to you as soon as we can. If necessary, you can ask the courier to leave your order in a safe place for you once you receive a notification from the delivery courier.

We are staying close to the government on the latest information and advice to ensure we are doing the right thing for both our colleagues and our customers. We know that one of the most important ways to help prevent the spread of any virus is to maintain good hygiene, so as per the NHS guidance we are recommending that our customers and colleagues continue to thoroughly wash their hands on a regular basis and to follow the advice on catch-it, bin-it, kill-it for coughs and sneezes.
